I’ve mentioned it before but I’ll say it again: this has gotta be the fifth time “garage rock” or some nearby cousin has been the IT THING since I started caring about music. Like any bandwagon you get your fair share of mediocre blahs and whatnot. There are just so many bands. The world is overflowing with bands. Everybody has to be in a stupid band.
It’s nice then when I finally hear some stuff touting a “garage rock” pedigree that actually gets me anywhere near excited. Thankfully Wooden Indian Burial Ground are, well, pretty good. They remind a lot of Comets on Fire or any equally freaked out psych-garage band. They’ve listened to a ton of Nuggets probably. While it’s next to impossible to be original when you’re working in this genre, it’s not always easy to sound like you’re actually having fun. I like to think this is FUN MUSIC. They’re coming to Missoula on Friday so there’ll be some time to check it out.
There are a ton of bands playing this show. Yeah, we classify five bands as a ton. Come early, stay late, watch the whole damn thing because guess what? Not only is there this psych-out group doing some psych-out stuff, King Elephant is releasing their new 7” at this thing so DON’T SNOOZE.
Wooden Indian Burial Ground, One F, Copilot Eyedrops, Confidence Man, and King Elephant play the Ole Beck VFW Post #209 on Friday, May 10th. Doors at 9pm, show at 9:30pm SHARP. $5 cover.
